Health Assessments

Health Assessments

A Health assessment is the evaluation of a patient's health and wellbeing.

At El Shaddai Family Practice we are committed to helping all our patients to identify and modify health risks.

Disease prevention and early detection targets specific areas such as obesity, sedentary life, physical activity, sexual health, heart diseases and mental health problems.

The health assessment process must be explained to the patient, an his consent must be documented in the patient's records.

We use health assessments to help decide if a patient needs:

  • Preventive health care.
  • Education to improve their health and wellbeing.
  • An appropriate follow up.

It involves a comprehensive physical, psychological and social wellbeing assessment.

It includes:

  • Patient history taking, examination and investigations.
  • Recommending appropriate interventions and providing information to patients.
  • Keeping records of the health assessment and offering the patient a written report about the health assessment.

Skin Checks

Approximately 2 in 3 Australians will be diagnosed with skin cancer by the time they are 70. The sooner the skin cancer is identified and treated, the better the chances of avoiding surgery and in the case of melanoma potential disfigurement and even death. Skin cancer occurs when the skin is damaged by excessive radiation from the sun.

It is advisable that you regularly check your skin and look for:

  • Small lumps that can be pearly like, red or pale in colour.
  • Freckles or any moles that are changing in colour, shape, size and thickness.
  • Any non-healing sores or recurrent crusty spots.

Come and see us if you are suspicious of any of the above or if you have had in the past recurrent skin sunburns or have used solariums.

We strongly recommend "Slip Slop Slap".
